10/17/2023 0 Comments Melmont ghost townThe Fairfax Bridge is one of two three-hinged lattice arches remaining within the state. Most of the town’s buildings were destroyed by fire by 1920. By 1918, the trains were switched from steam to diesel and electricity, reducing the need for Melmont’s coal. The coal was sent to the nearby town of Carbanado for processing. ![]() The mines were up and running by 1902 and produced 900,000 tons of coal. Melmont was a coal mining town located along the Carbon River in Pierce County, WA, established in 1900.
